Activity: LTTA 1

The first training activity (LTT1) of the EU Erasmus+ project titled “Effective Digital Self-Assessment for Sustainable School Improvement”, coordinated by the Ministry of National Education Board of Inspectors, was held in Lisbon, Portugal between 08-12 May 2023, hosted by the University of Lisbon. It was attended by academicians, inspectors, education managers from University of Lisbon (PT), University of Florence (IT), Jaume University (ES), Hacettepe University, Pharova School Inspectorate (RO), EduXprss (NL) and Ankara Directorate of National Education, Deputy Presidents İrfan KAYA, Mehmet ÖZGÜL, Ministry Inspectors Asiye AKİ, Coşkun Davut ŞENEL, Ferhat ÇELİK, Yusuf ÇELİK, Project Coordinator / Education Inspector Harun GÖNCÜ and National Education Specialist Dr. Meliha SAKİN participated in the training activity in which 27 participants including experts and teachers were present. Day 1:

The training activity, in which current school self-evaluation practices in partner countries and EU dimension were discussed, started with the opening speeches of Prof. Dr. Estela COSTA, Deputy Dean of Lisbon University Institute of Education and Project Coordinator / Education Inspector Harun GÖNCÜ. In the morning session of the training activity, Prof. Dr. Estela COSTA made a presentation on the current school self-evaluation practices in Portugal and the results of the field research conducted within the scope of the project. 

In the first session in the afternoon, presentations were made by National Education Specialist Dr. Meliha SAKİN and Prof. Dr. Arif ALTUN on the current school self-evaluation practices in Turkey and the field research results conducted within the scope of the project. Then, Prof. Davide CAPPERUCCI from Florence University, Italy and Ruben Garcia Vidal from Jaume University, Spain made presentations on the current school self-evaluation practices in Italy and Spain and the field research results carried out within the scope of the project.

Day 2:

In the morning programme, Lisbon Alvalade School Cluster was visited. Information was given by the school cluster managers about the current self-evaluation practices. In the afternoon session of the training activity, presentations were made by Karen van KOOTEN, Education Expert from EduXprss and Aurel GRAUR, School Inspector from Pharova School Inspectorate on the current school self-evaluation practices in the Netherlands and Romania and the field research results carried out within the scope of the project. In the last session of the second day of the training activity, presentations were made by Prof. Davide CAPPERUCCI from Florence University and Boudewijn van VELZEN from EduXprss on the preparation, implementation and monitoring processes of school development plans.

Day 3:

In the morning session, presentations were made by Mário ROCHA, manager of Cristelo School Cluster, on “The place of self-evaluation and school improvement in quality assurance systems” and by Paulo ALMEIDA, manager of Fernando Casimiro Pereira School Cluster, on “Tools (digital and other tools) used to collect reliable data in an effective self-evaluation model”.

In the afternoon sessions, Nuno MANTAS, Director of the Boa Água School Cluster, presented “Quality criteria, indicators, principles and procedures of an effective self-evaluation and school improvement model” and Célia ALMEIDA, Director of the Pedro Eanes Lobato School Cluster, presented “Principles and methods for the interpretation and evaluation of effective self-evaluation data”.

Day 4:

In the morning session of the fourth day, a presentation on “Good practice examples in the field of effective digital self-assessment in the EU” was made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nuno DOROTEA from the Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon made a presentation on “Examples of good practice in the field of effective digital self-assessment in the EU”.

In the afternoon session, Prof. Dr. Estela COSTA gave information on the preparation of the report output titled “Effective digital self-assessment for sustainable school development” to be prepared within the scope of the second work package (WP 2) in the project and determination of tasks and responsibilities.

Day 5:

In the morning session, information was given by Project Coordinator / Education Inspector Harun GÖNCÜ on the planning and preparation of future activities in the project. Then, Prof. Dr. Davide CAPPERUCCI from Florence University made a presentation on the second training activity to be held in Italy between 05-09 June 2023.

In the afternoon session, evaluations were made about the training activity, project budget and management. The training activity was completed with the presentation of certificates to the participants. 

Activity: LTT2

 The training activity, which was organised to increase the expertise of teachers, administrators, academics, inspectors/experts in the project partner institutions in developing digital self-assessment and school improvement tools, was hosted by the University of Florence between 04-09 June 2023 in Florence, Italy. The activity was organised with the participation of academics, inspectors, education managers, experts and teachers from TKB, HU, A MEM, ISIJP, EDUXPRS, UNIFI, UJI, ULISBOA.
Prior to the activity, UNIFI prepared and shared with the partners an information package including information about the training programme, location, transport, etc.
The training activity started with an opening and introductory activity. LTTA continued for 5 days in accordance with the activity plan.
As a result of the activity, the evaluation areas in the effective school self-evaluation model to be developed with the agreement of all partners were determined.
Participants had in-depth knowledge about effective digital school self-evaluation methods, school development processes, basic areas that should be evaluated in effective self-evaluation, criteria, data collection and analysis methods, digital tools used in self-evaluation. Participants’ professional knowledge and skills in the field of digital self-evaluation model development have increased.

Activity: TPM 2

WP1-Project Management Implementation: It was stated by the partners that there were no problems with the management in general. Issues that were considered to be deficiencies were brought to the agenda and solution proposals were discussed and agreed upon by all partners.
a) TPM-LTTA: It was evaluated that there were some translation-related problems in TPM and LTTs.
b) It was decided that by making preliminary preparations for this purpose, problems arising from communication with foreign languages will be eliminated.
c) It was evaluated that dissemination activities were carried out well, social media accounts and the project web page were created, information and news about the project were published, but the visuality and awareness of the web page was not sufficient.
d) When the activities carried out within the scope of WP2: Preparation of Effective Digital Self-Assessment Report for Sustainable School Development work package are evaluated;
i. It was stated that the TPM 1 Project Kick-off Meeting achieved its purpose

ii. Despite minor delays, it was assessed that systematic literature review was carried out in the partner countries (Turkey, Portugal, Spain, Italy, Portugal and Romania), needs analysis questionnaires were applied and analyzed, some reports could not be prepared in the required format due to some misunderstandings, but as a result, the activities achieved their objectives.
iii. LTT1 (Portugal): It was stated that the activity was carried out successfully, the satisfaction level of the participants regarding the training activity was quite high, therefore the activity achieved the purpose of the project.
iv. It was agreed that the Effective Digital School Self-Assessment Report for Continuous School Improvement (ULISBOA) was successfully prepared and should be published on the project website in order to reach a wider audience.
e) When the activities carried out within the scope of WP3: Developing an Effective Digital School Self-Assessment Model and Toolkit (ULISBOA) work package are evaluated;
LTT2 (Italy): It was stated that the activity achieved the objective set in the project; however, due to unforeseen reasons, the ULISBOA partner was represented by one person in the training activity and that participation with more people for the next activity would increase the efficiency of the project.
After the meeting, an interim evaluation report was prepared by EDUXPRS evaluating the activities carried out in the first 8 months of the project.

 

Activity: TPM 3

ES1-Project Management Practice: It was stated by the partners that there were no problems in management in general. The issues that were considered as shortcomings were brought to the agenda and solution proposals were discussed and decided by all partners.
a) TPM-LTTA: Some distributions obtained from translation in TPM and LTTs were evaluated.
b) It was decided that preliminary preparations should be made for this purpose to avoid deaths due to communication with foreign languages.
c) It was evaluated that dissemination was carried out well, social media accounts and the project’s web site were hosted, information and news about the project were published, but the visuality and awareness of the web site was not sufficient.

e) Evaluation of the activities carried out under the work package of ESP3: Development of an Effective Digital School Self-Assessment Model and Toolkit (ULISBOA);
LTT2 (Italy): The target range of the activity in the project was indicated; however, as an unforeseen consequence, it was considered that the ULISBOA companion was represented by one person in the training activity and that the resulting production would be increased with more people in the next activity.
After the meeting, an interim evaluation report was prepared, evaluating the information presented by EDUXPRS in the first 8 places.

The 3rd training activity of the DIGI ESSA 4 SCHOOL project took place in the Netherlands/Utrecht.

During the 5-day training activity, the following participants were trained on the following subjects:
Day 1: In the morning session, School Principal Noëlle Pameyer gave a presentation on school assessment systems in Dutch primary schools. In the afternoon session, Charlotte Veenendaal, School Manager, gave a presentation on the digital assessment system (Parnassys) used in Dutch primary schools.
Day 2: In the morning session, school visits were organised in 2 groups. During the school visits, information was received about the digital tools used in school self-assessment in Dutch schools. In the afternoon session, Inspector Fanny Verwoerdt and Analyst Kim Timmer from the Netherlands Education Inspectorate explained the Dutch school inspection and self-evaluation system.
Day 3: The morning session started with a presentation about the Dutch secondary school evaluation system (Magister) by School Director Menno Reitsma. In the afternoon session, Prof. Dr. Kim Schildkamp from the University of Twente presented new approaches to school self-evaluation and data analysis methods.
Day 4: In the morning session, Arif ALTUN from Hacettepe University made a presentation on the digital data entry tool developed in the DIGI ESSA 4 SCHOOL Project and its use. In the afternoon session, Ricardo Pardo, Software Specialist from Jaume University, made a presentation on the digital data analysis tool developed within the scope of the DIGI ESSA 4 SCHOOL Project and its use.
Day 5: In the morning session, the project management team made a presentation about the current situation in the project and the planned activities in the future. In the afternoon, the general evaluation of the training activity was made. The training activity was completed with a certificate ceremony.
